OK, lets clear this up a bit.. this takes place in the middle of The Pearl,
one of the most drawn-out, dull, lifeless short stories I have ever been forced to read. For English last year, we had to
write an addition to part of the story using a predominately evil character and not have it affect the main plot at all.
It really sucked.
I did not have the book, I had repressed all memories of what I had read, and I did it
the night before it was due. The style seems rudimentary and arduous to read (much like the story itself) and I didn't bother
to check it before pasting it here. I am not sure of my motives for putting it here nor your motives for clicking on
it, but chances are I can somehow blame it all on Bush.
(a bit of a background: it is nighttime, the main characters are asleep, and some dude is tryng to steal their big pearl.)
Kino and Juana were fast asleep in their hut.
Jimbob The Predominately Evil Pearl Stealer had heard about Kino’s fortune in finding the enormous pearl earlier that
day and decided to live up to his freakishly long name. He looked around him. The village was completely silent. He looked
around again. The village was still silent. The fifth time, the village was also silent. Jimbob T.P.E.P.S decided that it
would be a good time to move closer. He looked around the village. He was sure that this was the house containing the pearl
of the world. He had been surveying the entire area from the first time that he had heard in the streets of the city that
a man had found an enormous pearl, and memorized the layout in his mind just since then. It was not as if he needed the money
the pearl would bring. He was a master thief in his predominately evil homeland and was, as a result of that, also the richest
man there as well. There was only one thing that he wanted from the pearl; there was only thing that a pearl like this could
give him. His mother, the respected Senorita Bob The Predominately Evil Pearl Stealer-ess, wanted for Jimbob, her only son,
to follow in her and his father’s footsteps and become a pearl thief as well. She had grown up on a coastal village
much like the one that Jimbob was in currently, and had had much experience snatching pearls from under people’s noses.
By the time she was married and moved with her husband to Predominately Evalia, she was able to steal a pearl from the king’s
crown as it sat on his head. Yet, Predominately Evalia was very far inland, and as many things that Jimbob had stole to try
to please his mother, none of what he could find were pearls. He had not even seen a pearl until he was eighteen years of
age. When his mother passed away, she set a curse on Jimbob for not following her will. No matter how much gold he stole or
got from his vaults to buy something with, he would immediately lose it. Whether it was in his wallet, pocket, or even his
hand, as soon as he had finished asking for something from a merchant, the gold would disappear or be replaced with some other
item like bronze buttons. The only way to break it, he knew in his heart, was to steal a pearl like no other so his mother
would finally be proud. He knew it had to be an extraordinary pearl because he had tried this oh so many times before. After
he realized the curse that was cast upon him, he gathered a group of infamous, predominately evil thieves from all across
his country to find a pearl to steal. They had killed men, couples, families, villages even. They always traveled under the
cloak of darkness, so none knew their faces; not even their victims. They had traveled up and down the coasts, stealing too
many pearls to count, but Jimbob’s mother’s spirit was still not at rest. The gang of thieves, lured by the way
Jimbob described all of the piles of pearls that they would get, were satisfied and left one by one, having no further need
to continue the robberies. Now Jimbob was all alone, with no one but his curse, and knew that now was the time for him to
finally prove himself to his mother’s spirit. He took a last deep breath, the last one until the pearl was his and the
curse was gone. He thought of his most successful robberies alone and focused on all of the important aspects. This was his
night, he could sense it. He had spent long days in a special room that he had built before the curse practicing to be able
to see in the dark, and it payed off at this time. He could make out a small area in the hut where dirt had been shifted and
went towards it, then started to scratch silently at the earth. Suddenly, Kino awoke. He looked to his side, and Juana was
sleeping softly. He realized what had woken him up; the Song Of Evil was building up within his head, growing with each second.
Suddenly, the Song Of Evil subsided just enough to let him concentrate. He felt a presence in the back of the hut where the
pearl was previously buried, and heard the sound of controlled breathing…
